Happy Holidays from sub:culture! Come celebrate Monday 12/26 @ Sapphire!

update : December 22, 2011

It’s been a stellar year for the sub:culture crew – kicking off with events at
Inc Lounge in NY’s Time Hotel and of course a stunning WMC event atop the
C-Level roof deck at the Clevelander Hotel in Miami, leading up to the launch
of NOIRE at the Night Hotel and finally the kickoff of OUR HOUSE at downtown dance space DROM. Our resident DJs Jon Martin, Shifty Kid, Delmar Browne and Wayne Louis have been busy working the decks at clubs, lounges and hotels, on internet broadcasts and podcasts – and we’ve had the great fortune to welcome a stream of stellar guest DJs from around the world to play with us, bringing their unique track selections, styles and energies.

We have been blessed to have so many opportunities to bring our friends
together, and to meet so many new ones who also appreciate the power of great music, and although we’ve had our setbacks along the way, we are PROUD to continue pushing forward with our mission of BRINGING EXCEPTIONAL PEOPLE TOGETHER THROUGH EXCEPTIONAL MUSIC.

As we wrap up 2011, we would like to extend our gratitude to all of those
who’ve participated, contributed or supported us this year! Without you, there would be no sub:culture … you can bet your last dollar that we will continue to grow and expand in 2012 – with events at new venues and old familiar spaces, new podcasts, broadcasts, remixes and releases, and of course a cross-section of some of the most interesting, creative and downright fun characters on earth or anywhere else!

With that, WE THANK YOU – and wish you and yours the most fabulous holiday season imaginable.

Of course, this post wouldn’t be complete without a plugger for something
fierce, so join sub:culture resident and co-founder JON MARTIN on Monday,
December 26th for a FABULOUS night of dancing and debauchery, alongside MUTED MONDAY resident Mike Dominico and host Big Papa, at Sapphire Lounge (249 Eldridge St, New York, NY) … we’ll be desperately dancing off those excess holiday calories … and we hope to see you there too!

Our house | thursday 10/6 | monique bingham | danny “buddah” morales + more!

As autumn arrives and the steady summer stream of outdoor events, rooftop parties and boat ride parties comes to a close, there’s a new tide of underground dance music parties flowing downtown in a familiar space.

DROM, located at 85 Avenue A, formerly housed famed club Opaline and bar/lounge 85A, the home of now-legendary underground parties including Bang The Party and Sole Channel . Drom has since been presenting live co…ncert events, and has become a regular stop on the live venue circuit for both established and up-and-coming musicians in the World Music, Jazz and Rock genres. Now, with a new schedule of late-night club events on the horizon and a beefed-up sound system, the venue has set its sights on offering patrons a proper downtown alternative to the pretentious bottle-service oriented clubs that have taken over the city’s nightlife.

The venue’s new push kicks off Thursday, October 6th with OUR HOUSE, a collaborative event organized by club impresario Jon Martin and collaborators Joe B, Nini “Eternal Sol” Juliano and Beverly “Likewater” Jackson, each of whom have been responsible for extremely well-received underground dance parties in the tri-state area over the past decade.

OUR HOUSE features a stellar lineup of underground talent, including a live performance by globe-trotting singer/songwriter MONIQUE BINGHAM, one of the most recognized voices in dance music today, and DJ sets by the legendary Danny “Buddah” Morales (who will also be celebrating his birthday), sub:culture resident and PreParty Radio broadcaster Delmar Browne and Mike Dominico of Loose Joints and Central Park’s famed Skate Circle.

Opting for a traditionally industry-centric and bohemian-friendly Thursday party to kickoff the new series rather than an overcrowded bridge-and-tunnel heavy weekend night, OUR HOUSE sets out to reintroduce and redefine a space that has long served the dance music community, by bringing together some of the most respected talent the underground has to offer in one of the most diverse and lively neighborhoods in the city.

Patrick Scientific

DJ Patrick Scientific is co-leader of The Audio Infusion along with Henry Da Man. Patrick has most of the shows duties on his shoulders. Most of the scheduling of guests and programming of the show and weekly events goes through him. In addition to that Patrick maintains and updates the web site and the Facebook pages. Patrick is always in constant contact with record lables, promotions companies, DJs and recording artists themselves promoting the show and trying to get more music to the show. Even after all of the fore mentioned duties, he still ends up finding time to put together mixes for the show.

Believe it or not DJ Patrick Scientific started out (and to this day still is) a street promoter for LaStreet Promotions. Every once in a while he would bring DJ Willie music to play on The Audio Infusion. Patrick always conceptually knew how to mix but never really pursued it. At a friends house Patrick got on a friend’s turntables and surprised them. Seeing that it was something he enjoyed he decided to take the monitary plunge and purchase 2 turntables and a mixer. After making a couple of house mixes in which one got played on The Underground Experience with DJ Oji and DJ Pope on WEAA 88.9 FM, he arbitrarily tried to make a Drum and Bass mix. This was the first mix that got played on The Audio Infusion. After that he soon asked DJ Willie if he could intern on the show. Giving Willie records in the past probably helped in that decision but at the time Willie needed another person to be on the show. Willie just told Patrick to be on the show and Patrick became a member of The Audio Infusion.

On the show you can find Patrick playing anything. House and Drum and Bass will always get played. Patrick also gets off on trip hop and turntablism music. People like DJ Goo, Q-Bert and DJ Cam are what he likes to play at 4AM.

Patrick considers himself a House DJ but plays just about anything on The Audio Infusion. It doesn’t really matter to him. He just hopes the show grows and wants someone from the show to go beyond WEAA and if not make it big in the music industry, at least take it to that next level.

Bill Coleman

With the landscape of labels, radio, magazines, websites and blogs constantly changing, it is virtually impossible for music mavens to have a dependable outlet that they can consistently rely on for the best new music. New York-based music guru BILL COLEMAN has established himself as an important resource for quality innovative music.

Throughout his impressive 23-year career in the music industry, the dynamic and multi-faceted DJ, producer, remixer, music supervisor, performer and recording artist has become renown for his eclectic taste, acute ear and diverse musical expertise. In the worlds of music and film, Coleman is an influential tastemaker at the forefront of emerging trends and talent in the pop, r&b, rock, alternative, dance and electronic music landscape, as well as, in cutting edge independent film and documentaries.

The tireless “renaissance man” has enjoyed success as a revered music journalist having cut his teeth as the Dance and Singles Reviews Editor for Billboard Magazine [from 1987 to 1990]. He has written a music column for NYC style rag PAPER (”Wasn’t Tomorrow Wonderful?”), sat on the initial editorial board for the launch of OUT Magazine and freelanced for Musician magazine, B.E.T. and the BBC, alongside completing numerous album liner notes (Time Life’s popular Uptown Saturday Night series, Thompson Twins, Exposé).

Peace Bisquit are often recognized for their part in discovering and developing the influential, platinum-selling dance/pop trio DEEE-LITE (“Groove Is In The Heart”).
In early 2005, Coleman launched Peace Bisquit Discs – a new record company he founded to help introduce amazing music and bypass the labyrinth of corporate nay-sayers who lack vision for the 21st Century.

The first releases included new tunes from industry legends JODY WATLEY, The PRETENDERS (Loose Screws), JULEE CRUISE (David Lynch) and JILL JONES (with The Grand Royals). Peace Bisquit Discs is currently prepping the album debut of International nightlife denizen AMANDA LEPORE humbly-titled “I…Amanda Lepore”, has released the first solo dance single from Brand New Heavies vocalist N’DEA DAVENPORT (“One Day My Love”) which went Top 10 on Billboard’s Club Play chart as well as a number of assorted releases and videos from it’s prolific roster. Up next – the raucous U.S. debut of French electropunk duo PRAVDA called “Westward” and THE ONES sophomore album, “Blast From The Past.”

Additionally, Peace Bisquit has recently joined forces with the international and legendary dance imprint Strictly Rhythm for a new label endeavor – BEAT CONGRESS. The first releases of this exciting venture debut Spring 2010.

As a DJ and sound designer, Bill is internationally-renowned. Adept at mixing a musical tapestry of varied genres (from pop, disco, classics, new-wave and oldies to contemporary r&b, hip hop, electronica and indie-rock), the much in-demand maestro has produced musical landscapes or sound design for various fashion shows, art exhibits/installations and various special events for the likes of Nike, Kangol, Vogue, AOL, Marc Bouwer, DIFFA, Exit Art, World Of Wonder, M.A.C. Over the past 6 years, Coleman has performed with ‘crunkadelic’ supertroup DAISY SPURS. The “cuntrypunkgogomashupelectrohouse” outfit incorporates dance, song, acrobatics and lip synch into a frenetic, hi-NRG spectacle. They’ve graced the stages of CBGB’s, Dixon Place, The Delancey, Highline Ballroom, Cake Shop, Happy Valley, Mermaid Parade, Galapagos, Coney Island, The Pyramid, Southpaw, The Marquee/Slide and The Knitting Factory to name a few. They’ve been described by electrocrash pioneer DJ Larry Tee as “Outkast on steroids” and by various fans as a Peaches meets Vanity 6 amalgam. The Daisy Spurs recently rocked the annual Bowie Ball (a tribute to David Bowie) and this year’s Glammy Awards. Daisy Spurs will be releasing it’s first single and video, “I Hate Everybody In The Discoteque” this Winter followed by their debut album/mixtape, “Pulling Dirty Taffy” later this Spring.

Bill also manages to find time to be a member of Grammy winner Jody Watley’s touring band as a DJ.

Each week, NOIRE continues to execute its mission of bringing together “Exceptional People Through Exceptional Music” … with a revolving door of creative-types, tastemakers and industry vets on hand to tap into the creative energy once restricted to the downtown underground.

The party is FREE, there’s no door drama and ALWAYS drink specials to help ease the stresses of a rough week (and a rough economy!), including half-price delicious MARGARITAS for the ladies. Don’t be surprised if you make new friends or run into old ones – this party is geared towards those “in the know” with a keen mission to bring downtown cool to a broader scope of people, with more diversity and accessibility.
